Face Punch Studios, Birmingham

Independent game developer Facepunch Studios relocated to 103 Colmore Row in central Birmingham, creating a highly accessible and engaging workspace designed to act as a hub for staff and visitors. The vision was to deliver a standout, design-led office that blends working, gaming, and social environments. 

 

The space incorporates a range of bespoke features, including private offices, meeting rooms and booths, curved feature tables, and custom lighting installations. In addition, lifestyle elements such as a barber’s area, arcade machines, pool table, bar, and breakout spaces create a dynamic and immersive environment. 

 

Barrie Beard Electrical Contractors Ltd delivered a full electrical installation package to support the high-specification requirements of the project. Works included the installation of general and small power systems, with carefully planned circuit distribution to support IT infrastructure, gaming equipment, and specialist areas throughout the workspace. 

 

A comprehensive lighting installation was carried out, incorporating both general and feature lighting. Bespoke solutions were integrated into architectural elements, requiring close coordination to achieve both aesthetic and performance requirements. Containment systems, including tray, basket, and conduit, were installed to support power and data services, with capacity for future expansion. Distribution boards were configured to ensure effective load management and circuit segregation. 

 

Structured cabling was installed to support data, AV, and communications systems, alongside dedicated supplies for specialist equipment. All works were fully tested and commissioned in accordance with BS 7671, ensuring a safe, compliant, and high-quality installation. 

 

Facepunch Studios, known for titles such as Rust, Garry’s Mod, Chippy, and Sandbox, has achieved over 38 million game sales worldwide. The project has also received industry recognition, winning awards at the UK Property Awards and Mixology North23.
