BB was appointed to deliver the full electrical design and installation for a new state-of-the-art cable manufacturing facility for Thermocable. The project encompassed a diverse range of environments, including manufacturing workshops, a general warehouse, specialist cable production areas, a medical equipment assembly space, office accommodation, and bespoke staff welfare facilities.
The solution required a robust, flexible, and future-proof electrical infrastructure capable of supporting both heavy industrial processes and high-specification assembly operations.
BB took full design responsibility for the project and delivered a complete electrical installation from initial concept through to final commissioning. The works included the installation of the main incoming electrical supply, along with a main low voltage switchboard and a network of sub-distribution boards to serve the various functional areas of the building.
A comprehensive containment and wiring system was implemented across the facility to support both power and data infrastructure. Small power installations were provided throughout to meet the demands of manufacturing, assembly, and office environments.
Lighting formed a key element of the project, with carefully designed internal, emergency, and external lighting systems installed to ensure safety, compliance, and operational efficiency. These systems were integrated with a modern lighting control solution to optimise energy usage and user flexibility.
In addition, BB installed a structured cabling system to support data and communications, along with a disabled refuge intercom system to enhance safety and accessibility. Electrical supplies were also provided to all items of mechanical plant, ensuring seamless integration with building services.
The installation was completed with full earthing and bonding throughout, followed by thorough testing, inspection, and commissioning to ensure compliance and performance in line with project requirements.
The primary objective of the project was to deliver a fully operational manufacturing, warehouse, and office facility that met the specific needs of Thermocable’s operations. A key focus was ensuring that the electrical design was not only compliant but also practical and reliable in day-to-day use, particularly within specialist manufacturing and medical assembly areas.
BB also aimed to exceed the expectations of the Principal Contractor, Oktra, with a view to strengthening the working relationship and securing future opportunities. Alongside quality and performance, maintaining efficiency throughout the programme was essential to ensure the project was delivered within budget and achieved a profitable outcome.
The project was successfully completed within the 18-week programme, delivering a high-quality electrical installation tailored to the complex and varied requirements of the facility. Close collaboration with Oktra and other trades enabled smooth coordination across all stages of the project, ensuring that works progressed efficiently and without disruption.
The completed facility now benefits from a reliable and scalable electrical infrastructure that supports current operations while allowing for future growth and adaptation.
