Barrie Beard Electrical Contractors Ltd successfully delivered the electrical shell and core installation for the redevelopment of the historic Tea Factory at Old Typhoo Wharf in Digbeth. This project forms part of a major transformation of the site, which is set to become the new regional headquarters for the BBC, supporting productions including Silent Witness.
Working alongside BAM Construction, the project was completed over a 35-week programme, reaching completion on 27 March 2026. The nature of a shell and core installation required a robust and future-proof electrical infrastructure to support the building’s ongoing development and final fit-out.
The works involved delivering a comprehensive electrical base build, ensuring that all essential systems were in place to enable future tenants and specialist installations. This included the installation of new high and low voltage power supplies, forming the backbone of the building’s electrical distribution. General and emergency lighting systems were installed throughout, providing safe and compliant illumination across the site.
In addition, small power systems were implemented to support general usage requirements, alongside full earthing and bonding to ensure safety and compliance with current regulations. Extensive cable containment and distribution systems were installed to allow for flexible future connections, as well as dedicated containment for CCTV, access control systems, and cathodic protection.
External lighting was also delivered as part of the project, enhancing both the safety and usability of the surrounding areas.
Barrie Beard Electrical Contractors Ltd provided a high-quality, reliable installation tailored to meet the demands of a large-scale commercial redevelopment. Careful coordination and attention to detail ensured that all systems were installed efficiently and in line with the project programme.
The completed shell and core electrical infrastructure now provides a strong foundation for the next phase of development, supporting the creation of a modern, high-performance media facility in the heart of Digbeth.
This project highlights Barrie Beard Electrical Contractors Ltd’s capability to deliver complex electrical packages on high-profile commercial developments, reinforcing our commitment to quality, reliability, and excellence.
