King Edward House, Birmingham

Barrie Beard Electrical Contractors Ltd successfully delivered the full electrical package for the refurbishment of King Edward House in central Birmingham, working in partnership with Rhino Interiors. This prominent seven-storey Portland stone building, originally constructed in 1936, required a carefully considered approach to preserve its distinctive Art Deco character while upgrading it to modern standards. 

 

A key element of the project was the installation of a comprehensive, energy-efficient LED lighting scheme across all floors. High-quality fittings supplied by Glamox, ASD Lighting PLC, and Light Forms UK were selected to complement the building’s architectural style while significantly improving energy performance and reducing operational costs. 

 

To ensure full compliance with current fire safety regulations, a complete fire alarm system was installed in collaboration with Clymac. In addition, enhanced security measures were implemented, including CCTV and access control systems delivered alongside Omega, providing a safe and secure environment for occupants. 

 

Sustainability was a core focus throughout the project. Solar panels were installed at roof level in partnership with Carbon3, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and supporting long-term energy efficiency for the building. 

 

Delivered on programme and to a high specification, the project represents a successful transformation of a historic building into a modern, sustainable workspace.
