Project Overview
Barrie Beard Electrical Contractors Ltd has been appointed by Willmott Dixon Interiors to deliver the electrical installation at 5 St Philips Place, a seven-storey commercial office building located in the heart of Birmingham's prestigious Colmore Business District.
The project forms part of an extensive transformation of the building, creating a modern, sustainable commercial environment while retaining and enhancing key elements of its existing character.
Our electrical works extend throughout the building and include the infrastructure required to support the refurbished office accommodation, alongside significant works associated with a new rooftop extension and external terraces.
With its impressive floor space and prominent city-centre location, 5 St Philips Place represents an exciting project for our team, and we're looking forward to seeing the development progress over the coming months.
Scope of Works
Barrie Beard's involvement covers a comprehensive range of electrical works throughout the seven-storey building, including the installation and development of electrical infrastructure required to support the new commercial environment.
Our works include:
Electrical power distribution throughout the building
Containment systems
Small power installations
Internal lighting installations
Lighting control systems
Electrical infrastructure supporting the new rooftop extension
Electrical installations associated with the external terraces
External lighting and associated electrical supplies
Electrical services supporting the new reception area
Integration and coordination of electrical services with the wider building refurbishment
Testing, commissioning and certification of completed electrical installations
A Modern Electrical Infrastructure
A key aspect of our role is ensuring that the electrical infrastructure supports the building's transformation into a modern commercial workspace.
The project requires close coordination with other trades throughout the refurbishment, particularly where new electrical services interact with the existing building infrastructure and the new architectural elements being introduced.
The addition of a rooftop extension and external terraces also creates opportunities for the electrical installation to extend beyond the existing building footprint, requiring careful planning and coordination to accommodate the new spaces.
The Wider Development
5 St Philips Place is being transformed through a Cat A sustainable fit-out, creating a contemporary commercial environment within Birmingham's Colmore Business District.
The building's welcome area will feature a new double-height reception, incorporating entrance lighting and three-dimensional backlit signage to create a striking arrival experience.
At the same time, the building's existing Art Deco-style metalwork is being retained and refurbished, helping preserve elements of its architectural character while introducing modern facilities and services.
The combination of refurbishment, new construction and sustainable design presents an exciting opportunity to bring together the building's existing character with modern commercial requirements.
Looking Ahead
With works now underway, we're excited to be playing a part in the transformation of 5 St Philips Place.
We'll be continuing to work alongside Willmott Dixon Interiors and the wider project team throughout the development, delivering the electrical infrastructure required to bring this impressive commercial building into its next chapter.
