Historic Grade II Piano Building now a haven for the community
Barrie Beard Electrical Contractors Ltd. is proud to have played a key role in the transformation of The Piano Building in Kidderminster, a Grade II listed building with a rich history dating back to 1867.
Originally constructed as a wool warehouse, the building takes its name from its distinctive shape, which resembles a grand piano. It was later acquired by Wyre Forest District Council as part of the wider regeneration of the area.
Working alongside Speller Metcalfe, we were appointed to deliver the full electrical installation throughout the historic building. Our scope covered a wide range of electrical services, including lighting, power distribution, fire safety systems, accessible WC alarm systems and other associated electrical works.
Working within a Grade II listed building presented a number of challenges, requiring careful planning and consideration to ensure the new electrical infrastructure could be installed while respecting the building's historic character.
Completed in October 2025, The Piano Building has now been transformed into a modern mixed-use facility, providing co-working and hybrid working spaces, entertainment areas and restaurants on the ground floor.
The project successfully combines the building's historic character with modern facilities designed to support the needs of the local community and businesses.
We are incredibly proud to have contributed our electrical expertise to this landmark project and to have played a part in bringing The Piano Building into its next chapter.
